Parga
Amphitheatrically built, the city of Parga is a picturesque resort situated between the coastal region of Preveza and Igoumenitsa which uniquely combines mountain and sea. One of the most picturesque and cosmopolitan places in northwestern Greece, the “Bride of Epirus”, the beautiful Parga challenges you to experience up close the long history, diverse natural beauty, and the hospitality of inhabitants.
Parga is at a distance of 65 km. from the airport of Aktion – Preveza and the summer months is connected with the surrounding islands (Paxos – Antipaxos – Corfu).
Every year in fifteenth of August cultural events take place in Parga under the auspices of Municipality of Parga, so-called Pargina or Kanaria. The celebrations have religious and historical character.
On the night of celebration of Virgin mary the people transported with boats to the islet of Panagia, situated in front of the town of Parga. The next night on the day of Panagia (August 15th) a crowd is gathered in harbor area to watch the “barcarole” which represents the return of Pargians and the Sacred Relics in town of Parga.
